Obiwan Kenobi, a California man who legally changed his name to match that of the famous “Star Wars” character, has been charged with leaving the scene of a five-car accident in Roseville, Calif, The Auburn Press Tribune reported. Police said Kenobi’s reckless driving triggered the chain-reaction collision on March 19. Following an investigation, Roseville police arrested the 37-year-old last Saturday and booked him into Placer County jail on a felony hit-and-run charge. At the time of his arrest, Kenobi was also wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor petty theft charge. He was released from custody Thursday on “electronic monitoring,” The Smoking Gun reported, citing a Placer County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson. Kenobi, formerly known as Benjamin Cale Feit, changed his name in 1999 in a radio stunt tied to the release of “Star Wars: Episode 1.” |
