Cancelled Shows 2012, “CSI: Miami,” “Desperate Housewives” and “House” are among the cancelled shows axed from the 2012 primetime roster. News of these and other cancelled shows spread on Monday as dismayed fans said goodbye to their favorite series.

“CSI: Miami,” which aired on CBS, was first broadcast in 2002. The show, which is in its tenth season, will end after nineteen episodes. “NYC 22,” a police drama that premiered last month, was supposed to replace “CSI: Miami,” but CBS announced that that show would be cancelled as well.

The final episode of ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” aired on May 13, after eight seasons. Actress Eva Longoria, who played Gabrielle Solis, voiced her sadness over the end of an era. On Wednesday, Longoria told David Letterman that she cried when the cast, who have become like family to her, wrapped up the finale. “They said ‘that’s a wrap’ for the last time, and that’s when the tears came,” she said.

“House” is a medical drama that premiered on FOX in 2004. Star of the show Hugh Laurie rose to astronomical fame for his part as Dr. Gregory House. In 2008, the show was one of the most watched television programs in the world and his salary skyrocketed to $700,000 per episode. The show has received a multitude of awards, including five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes.

Popular series that escaped cancellation for 2012 include “The Middle,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Gossip Girl,” “Hart of Dixie,” “The Cleveland Show,” “Community” and “Smash.”

NBC’s “Smash” faced shaky reviews but was picked up for another season. The upcoming season will consist of 18 episodes, up from the 13 episodes in Season 1. However, it will be bumped back to mid-season to make way for six new shows premiering on the network in the fall.

Actor Christian Borle, who plays Broadway composer Tom Levitt on the NBC series, told the L.A. Times that the show will be “rebooted” come Season 2.

“I just met [new show-runner] Josh Safran for the first time last week and kind of heard what was on the docket, and it’s going to be a totally different … show,” Borle told the L.A. Times, referring to the departure of show-runner Theresa Rebeck. “The show is almost getting rebooted.” (International Business Times)
